I'm a hobby planter.

I planted 90 Scots Pine today :) I'm planting a total of 300 Scots Pine, 105 alder and 105 oak.

How many do you professionals plant a day? I guess I could plant circa 500 conifers a day or 100 hardwoods (with tube and stake).

I haven't done any real planting for a few years now, but when I was planting used to average between 1200 and 1500 a day including site supervision, 1800 to 2000 a day if I didn't have plants to lay out and checks to do. Bare root conifers on mounded sites, no tubes, spirals, vole guards or any of that kind of nonsense.

The planting squads are all busy done here and been busy for a while.

As spruce pirate says around the 1500 mark over dolp depending how rough the ground is.

Quite a bit of new ploughed ground being planted now too, should be pushing a good bit more on that. My old boss reckoned he was doing 2500-3000 a day back in the 70's and 80's on the plough

With a machine costs/outlay go up obviously but the rate per person shoots up.

In nursery conditions. 3 people. Driver, planter, person handling plants to keep machine going etc. 70 plants in 10 minutes with a single row machine.

Plants up to 8ft in height. Spaced at 3 ft. My approximate guess. Great if thousands to plant.

Bouncing up and down on a spade in weedy matted vegetation with clay underneath is not as pleasant or satisfying in my opinion.

Rarely does anyone prepare or want to pay for cultivation for woodland planting.
