I'm pretty sure that TNT stump removal was part of the 10week course at Merrist back in the '70's...

Or was that just another joke I fell for...:confused1:

 

Possibly not a joke. My dad has told me a few times about how they used gelignite to blow apart stumps in the 60's/70's, including one time when they thought the boss had gone up with it.

Defo not a joke. When i was there I saw photos taken on one such course, back in the day.

The instructor lit the fuse and jumped in his land rover, which promptly got stuck in the mud!

When the stump flew up in the air, 'cos he'd over done the explosives, the Landy was at full throttle, wheels still spinning.

The stump landed on the tail of the Landy wrecking it!

Priceless! :laugh1:
