Hey Marc what im going to do is use both my variation on the icicle and the VT and see which one works for me. Also trying different ropes and slings im not to busy this side of christmas so gives me time on the jobs i have to play around.

i just use a simple blakes on mt 13mm line and a prussic on my 11mm line, want to give that v.t a whirl tho

Hey Been using the hitch climber with a VT for a week now its good but i had 5 wraps 4 twists so it got to hard once broke in now i need to use less wraps did notice a few time would not grip the rope and i had to help it along could be dangerous if not aware. The ocean p sling is a little to short makes desending or releasing slack more timely than the tradtionals i know i need abit more time to perfect it but i see why its used and i may be a new convert.

This thread has prompted me to have a play around with a vt.. Been using it the past week or so on scraggy little conifers and a couple of takedowns. Really looking forward to trying it in a big spreading tree, its a luxury walking back in to the stem and only needing one hand to tend the slack..

are you using a rope guide or friction saver aswell dom?

I've been using a micro pulley, sometimes I use a sling and carabiner as a friction saver, some day i'll invest in a retrievable one..

Dom i'll occasionally use a large pear type karabiner plus a micro pulley on a small biner and basket a sling this way if I want less friction, its as easy to retrieve and use as a normal friction/cambium saver.

 

Its my poor mans version of a rope guide.
