Just read that the MGT power station at teeside has just passed the last hurdle before construction starts on the 300mw plant

It will use an estimated 2.5 million tonnes of woodchip

Good I here you ask , maybe another outlet for our forestry , but no it is to be sourced from the US and Europe no mention of british woodchip

Don't know , everyone seems worried about how long we can last before we run out

There was no mention in the bit I read about any percentage from the uk

How much will it cost to get a tonne of chip from the good old USA to teeside , it will be built right on the rivers edge not far from the current biomass plant , which I was told from a farmer who I chip for not more than 5 miles from the biomass powewr plant told me they have a massive amount of timber in stock and it is starting to rot .

Maybe this is why stobbarts have slowed down buying chip in

Amazing,

Here we have a fantastic 'green' power station, which sounds like it uses more energy than it creates because the fuel has to be imported.

Perhaps they couldnt source all the woodchip from the UK but I suspect they never tried as it seems every week someones looking for a tip site.

It would involve 350 truck loads a day, so it may be the queue at the traffic lights that is the main drawback for uk chip.

I was told that sourcing chip from Canada, only 2% of the fuel used in the process was consumed by the boat. Still not right not to use our stuff thats going begging though.

Does anyone know what sort of quality of chip these power stations use

Or is it the same as a smaller unit G30 G50

and how dry ?

I did have the spec for Slough, not certain but I think particle size up 100mm was acceptable, the moisture was not too critical, but absolutely no stones,
