Hi all Im considering getting a Transit crew cab tipper . The reason is simple I am going to get a yard with hard standing . So I will be saying goodbye to my old water logged yard . I will be holding on to the landy for the time being .Just wanted to know what the new transits are like. The new crew cabs dont seem to be as secure as the old ones . There seems to be to much glass in them . Also can you work on them yourself or is there to much electrical stuff going on ? . Would you go for an old shape or a new model. My budget is around £5k for new shape or around £ 3k for older shape .:confused1:

You will get a pretty good newish one for 5k. Just black out the glass if the back seats are for tools. If some ones wants in they will get in just don't leave your kit on display

I have an old shape one does me great just keeps going and going, folk say i should update to a newer model but i like the devil i know, cheap as chips to fix and since its serviced and maintained regular, walks its MOT.

The old shape transits are tough work horses through and through. I personally would buy a decent old one. Saying that the new transits are great aswell. Can be abit tempermental when it comes to the electrics though.

This is what Id prefer v or w reg or older . The thing is if I had an older transit I would make a secure cage for the crew cab . Then again If I had a newer one I wouldnt want to start messing about with it . What do you think of roller shutter lockers ? .:001_smile:

Be carefull if you make a secure cage and keep tools in over night. A firm near me did this, the van was nicken and found cut open minus the tools in a field!
A very valid point . The things we do to keep our kit safe is unreal . Somedays it take me 5/10 mins to get in my garage and Ive got the keys . Locks bolts barbed wire its crazy .:thumbup1:

Mine is an n reg and ive had it for about 6 years its still not done 100k and ive all the mots so i got quite a good one, i have the back of the crew boxed in and all my gear is secured via a locking wire, i dont like the roller doors easy opened i reckon,its quite heavy though empty with me its 2450kg so can just carry a ton, i work close to home so can tip twice a day if the need arrives.

Have you fitted one of those padlocks to the outside of the crew cab door . I think the wire would slow down any would be chancers .:thumbup:
