Chip boiler sounds good but how do you dry the chip in bulk, had a quick read up and it states chip has to be below 20%.

 

grey metal stoves are stunning looking but can't get round how they can make em so cheap.

 

I'm one of these that thinks if things are cheap, they are cheap for a reason.

 

Used to service powertools, the cheaper stuff was absolute crap when you opened them up, cheap bearings etc.

I did the Ignite wood fuel training ( lantra cert) last year. Chip is going to get bigger.

 

The way to get dry chip is to use dried wood.

There is little difference in the calorific values of soft or hardwood.

Its cut, stacked, covered for a year then chipped.

 

Arb waste is not generally suited to domestic chip boilers, too much moisture and greenery. Unless you buy a big step grate boiler which is expensive and more for semi indusrial use ( schools , hotels and factories) and the chip is used quickly before it begins to compost or ferment in the storage bunker.

i have the dunsley yorkshire with backboiler which only runs the central heating and a mains 7 for the hot water although we use little hot water out of the tap as we get most from the kettles on top and we often cook on it as well have only had it 6 months but love it to bits i am local to you pentcotools if you wanted to discuss as i looked into the pros and cons of linking everything and all the options

First person I've come across with a back boiler dunsley.

This what keeps use toasty and warm.

It is 150kw a bit big realy,but runs 16 rads 5 of which are ex-hospital cast iron jobs,and all the hot water you could ever need.

The fire box is 4ft wide and 6ft deep,so no need to chop logs if I can lift it, it goes in!

 

But being warm isn't every thing for the romance of a real fire we have a Dovre 2300 wood burner.
