No, bees are NOT protected, people just want to look after them because they are having a hard time. So if you get a nest in your house for example in the cavity wall, you can kill the nest if it can't be moved. Killing bees should be the absolute last resort.

Thats interesting - the pest control people are lying on their website then

Abate does its utmost to avoid destroying any bees nests and will only do so as a last resort. Due to legislation, costs to destroy a bees nest can be very expensive.'

Not categorically lying, just says legislation is expensive:biggrin: The cost of tree work is expensive because the law says that we need EL insurance, training, loler etc, but that doesn't mean all trees are protected by law.

I didn't want to kill them, I tried sealing the exits with expanding foam, hoping we could crane them to a new location, stung once trying... There are more exits, I am also concerned that the cavity runs to the base of the tree so they would swarm out when we lift it off anyway. The pest people are unfortunately going to poison. Shame as I wanted some honey...

Sad to hear that Ben but sometimes there no alternative. The last thing I wanted to do was kill mine but we couldn't get them out of the house any other way and they couldn't stay. The pest people told me that if the bees had stayed then the honey could attract rats. It was a disapointing outcome, especially as I have a beekeeper living in the village. He looked, nothing to be done. Sometimes thats how it goes.

Got it Gary. If thats the case then I'd say they're being pretty economical with the truth :sneaky2:
