dcs5000 repair

hi, got a dcs5000 spares or repair to nick some bits off, now i'm trying to fix it up, it has compression, a new coil (sparking good) and the carb is clean (screws are turned out 1)

not firing, if i choke it or half throttle it it floods, after pulling for a long time (and periodically cleaning spark plug and pot) it will fire a couple of times, this appeared more frequent when the H and L were 1.5 to 2 turns out.)

the only two things i can notice are - very very light scoring on piston (but i have seen much worse saws still run (even if only badly) and compression feels ok to good. also diaphram in carb is a wee bit stretched, but again i have seen much worse still run.

anything else worth checking? doesn;t feel lumpy when pulling over, flywheel has no movement (other than roundways!)

thanks in advance

haven;t checked impulse line, but as its flooding i'm assuming its working?

3 new ones they have a problem with weak casing that holds the chain break and the pistons score for no reason, defo wasn't my mix as i was using the same in my stihl 260 and thats still running fine.

that was a few years ago now so maybe the new ones are better. i hope you have better luck with them than i did anyway

I had a dolmar ps-5000 here it would spark fine on the bench coil was ok as soon as put it back together intermittent spark found out there was a small tear in the HT lead when it was all screwed up tight it would earth out

The carbs on these saws can be a pain once they start playing up I've just put a new carb on a 43cc Makita as it wasn't performing right put a carb kit in not much difference then took a carb of a dolmar 420 and it run fine so sometimes an easy fix :thumbup:

arsed on for a bit today and got it to cough a few times but not run, so spark is sparking, i have just replaced the coil too so i know the ht lead is in good shape. guess i'll have to whip the carb off my running dcs5000 stick it on this one and that should give me an idea of what the fault is.

thanks for the tips

changed the carb for one i knows works fine. no joy. took flywheel off, all looks good, key is fine.

could it be that slightly low compression is stopping it running altogether? my experience is that this only prevents it from running properly rather than at all?
