I much prefer contract work to most domestic jobs. Thats probably because everyone round here is so damn tightfisted.

All three of our Local authorities are insisting on constructionline as a prequal.

I would love to make good money just doing private and domestic, but for me, thats never going to happen. I make far bigger margins working in the commercial sector, so I guess I'll keep ticking those boxes...

Turn over is vanity, profit is sanity and cash flow is king.

Damm right,

Following our accreediatations we now make better profits have better cash flow and have doubled in size in 3 years which is exacly what I set out to do.

You can keep Mrs Miggins hedges for me, I'll concentrate on the larger jobs which help keep me in the manner I'm accustomed to!

LOL.

arc, is that double profit?

You`re right about avoiding hedges.

A mix of domestic and commercial is good I think. It can be risky relying on a handful of large contracts. I find it less stressful knowing that if I lost my top 3 customers I probably wouldn`t even notice.

Doubled the tunover and staff numbers mate, the profits were actually up higher in relation to the turnover because we are working more effeciently for better paying customers and have cut out the worst customers who are always trying to beat you down on cost or are slow at paying.

We still have odd hicups, but they are now few and far between.

Nice one. Better paying customers and less hiccups, like you say. Earning good money in one day is no good if you can`t do it consistently.

I'd agree with all of that - cash-flow is deffinatley king... so many times we've been completley buggered all because of cash flow.

If you stay small cash flow is not a problem, its all the money going out that sucks you dry.

I have customers ringing ME wanting a bill, not me chasing money
