Lovely Bench

have you done anything to stop the ends from splitting (down)?

thanks

Kev, the timber is really old and well seasoned, all the cracks are natural and it is very stable, I have secured with 200mm timber screws that have been plugged and sanded plus lots of oil.

regards Bert.

Looks good!

Are any of the pieces including sapwood? {Particularly the outside cut slabs?} Or has that all rotted off over the years or been sanded away?

there was no sapwood on the seat an backrest, but yes all rotted off over the years and it did take a lot of sanding.
