Snapped alder branches

Recommended Posts

Most of my alder is doing really well, with the whips up over 6' and thickening up nicely. However, I notice quite a few of the branches have snapped, presumably in the wind - is alder particularly susceptible to this or is it just because they're the first young trees to get to that size and they have large leaves that catch the wind?

Alder is a bit fragile

Thanks. Seems to be surviving OK and hopefully once it gets a bit bigger the thicker twigs will be more resilient. Going to need some ground litter to start mulching out the weeds anyway!
