As an aside to this interesting discussion (and I think it has been) a little thing I've noticed over here. A lot of firms here call themselves "entretien parc et jardin" entretien is maintenance. They have a distinction, a large expanse of ground planted with trees is a parc, one rarely does anything to them but take them out when dead, or remove storm damage, a jardin is smaller, trees would be trimmed and managed in these, often to within an inch of their life!

TPOs are they important ? ........... The answer is in the title . Tree Preservation Order yes yes and yes . Im sick of hearing that a tree has dead bits in it and might fall onto said property ? Stop building near beautiful trees . If you ever buy a house near a tree well tough you must of seen its beauty before you purchased the property ? They are very obvious and visible statues of nature that were there well before you wakey wakey . Why do people who live in the city crave countryside walks and retreats for fresh air which trees supply .

If I had to live a day in the life of my local TPO Officer. I would be arrested  . Sad how people can set a tree surgery business up without any knowledge or understanding of Arboriculture and Forestry not to mention trees and there relation to urban development ?

Some of the Tpo applications are unreal .

Sorry if anyone has been offended by this post . If you have tough buy me a beer next time we meet and I will gladly enlighten you :bash:

Come on now, we can't have a monoculture now, can we! .

Slightly modified quote sentence but.... No, we can't (or perhaps shouldn't) unless the the organisation is called the forestry commission??

(Tongue in cheek!)

Admirable passion but I can't help thinking entrenchment is only ever going to present a barrier to objectivity and the ability to appreciate the situation from an alternative perspective.

Dread to think what the "uncut" version was!!

Happy to help if possible.

You can, you can:biggrin:

Sympathetic contacts in planning or tree officers who would be willing to answer a short on-line survey. I need a contact in every LPA in England. TiT2 had a 66% response rate, lets see if through the membership of Arbtalk we can better that:biggrin:

I have been following Arbtalk for sometime and I am surprised how few TOs contribute - unless I am wrong........I know we all have varied views and are generally passionate (if not sometimes to the extreme!!)

Would be interesting.................
