Flowering question

A bunch of these were bought for a hedge, the leftovers were planted in pots.

The potted ones are all flowering, none of the planted hedge are.

Any theories why?

Are they portugese laurel? Had a similar issue.. A hedge was planted but a fair few of them are stunted whilst the rest have shot up, and no flower either. Could be that they're not getting enough light or the soil is all wrong and they aren't getting the nutrients needed to produce flower? I'm no expert, but just a thought.

Sulphate of potash is good for flower production

Not an expert on these but sometimes plants will flower when under stress, as a last ditch effort to set some seed. Maybe those in the pots are now getting pot bound and this stress is causing the flowering?

Could have something to do with it. I didn't question the guy about how he'd planted the hedge.

I would say its probably the other way

 

The potted ones look to be in rude health they are likely to be in a good quality media and the free planted ones are in whatever they are in.
