Mitsubishi canter fuso 6.5t thoughts?

So I'm looking at this truck good money, 35000 miles 2007 seems sound.

I run a 2009 transit (plus a much older one as back up) so it's an upgrade.

Plus points, not running overweight, I can put well over 2 tonnes in and tow the chipper without worries, tool box will be very handy.

Bad points, actual capacity is hardly bigger than my single cab tranny, speed limiter to 55mph, the youngster cannot legally drive it.

So I understand that these are decisions only I can make but has anyone been in a similar situation and can give me their experiences of this sort of switch?

Over here there's no 12 week test or anything so it's only a yearly MOT.

Thanks in advance.

Mick

Your only downside is that it you are restricted who can drive it. We have one 6 toner, three 3.5 toners, three old drivers and three young drivers.

It sometimes takes some juggling to ensure a driver. Occasionally we end up with the 6 ton going stump grinding with one man and no waste and the Land rover with 3 lads squashed in to do a tree job..

The 6 ton trucks are much better suited to tree work in my opinion.

No downsides as you can't tie a trailer much over the 85kph limit anyway and all vehicles should be well maintained. As long as you're willing to train the young lad to drive it. I made far bigger jump to 18t and have no regrets.

We use them here in OZ and they're great trucks. We had the 4x4 models and we could get into and out some pretty sticky situations. Your correct they don't hold much more capacity but they pull it so much better. Oh, and all you need then is to upgrade to a bigger chipeer (12-14 inch) then your set.

Happy decision making
