An update on the 115: WHAT A SAW!!!

 

Utterly solid saw, total reliability but now after a long run-in period, my goodness doesn't it go. Sounds lovely, power to weight ratio is incredible and this confirms for me that modern saws haven't really made any progress at all.

 

This thing is wicked.

 

Gotta confess it's my favourite too next year it's got a big birthday 30yrs :thumbup::thumbup:

what cc is it tcd, what bar you use ?

 

52cc, 0.5kg lighter than the PS-5105 with just as much beans in the real world. Very compact, neatly built, goes like a trojan, solid as a rock. Only one negative for me - the old school inner chain tensioner - hate them. I can live with it tho and forgive the outboard clutch in exchange for the performance and zero electronics. :thumbup1:

Spot on, the Dolmars seem utterly brilliant & so well made, I dont like new fangled stuff on saws its just annoying and breaks down.

 

Deffo going for a 420 next year & love a 7910

This thing is wicked.

 

The problem with modern saws is that like other air cooled engined machines the progress is aimed at satisfying ever stricter emissions and noise regulations. It's getting progressively harder to even maintain the power/engine capacity ratio let alone improve on it. The electronics are aimed at keeping emissions low and power up which means more complication/cost for the guy wanting to service his own equipment.

Agree, I also think there may be exploitation of the emissions regulations to introduce complicated electronics that lock the end user out altogether - in the same way cars have gone.

 

Along with that theres gimicks such as 'tool-less' chain tensioners that dont work & things that break/wear prematurely when they shouldn't because it provides a revenue stream once the fanfare of introducing the latest & greatest saw has died down.

 

Time will tell but right now Dolmar & Echo look solid choices
