Causes of an engine hunting?

Dug out the brush cutter for the first time today. Been stored with some Aspen I think. After a fair bit pulling it runs and is usable but the engine continually hunted. Still plenty of power but cleary something is not right. Where should I start?

Try changing the fuel pipe, fuel filter and fit a new carb kit. It is usually the fuel system that fails in storage as fuel pipes soften and carb diaphragms harden.

was it very hot that day? sometimes heat expansion plays the fuel game, release the fuel cap in heat, before spending money or time searching for parts!

It was last night Tony so definitely not heat. Its an old machine so will check the fuel lines and filter this morning.
