Hello, please could someone enlighten me on some aspects of LOLER to do with our industry.

The LOLER inspector that our company uses will not cert equipment with out MBS, WLL or SWL. I make sure the kit is marked up to conform, however got some new kit through recently (fliplines including grab etc, cabium savers/pulley savers) which does not have MBS etc marked on it. LOLER guidelines say that equipment should have SWL marked on it.

I mark the ropes, friction cord with MBS but because of the different configurations, knots used, I put SWL one person. Under our LOLER check this isn't correct, as 'one person' is to vague.

Thanks.

The MBS, SWL and WLL should in theory only apply to rigging equipment as the inspector has the ability to downrate the SWL if necessary. Climbing equipment on the other hand is classed as PPE and therefore the blanket coverage of one person SWL will suffice, mind you this depends on the size of your one person. I think it's 100Kg off the top of my head.

Climbing kit will have a mbs/swl but they do take some tracking down sometimes.

It must be tested to ensure it meets the 22kN requirement.

If you can't find the info post up what the kit is and someone will have what you need.

If the equipment only has a ce mark / en number

As this is a piece of recreational mountaineering equipment, so has now become a piece of work equipment subject to LOLER it becomes subject to the requirements of Reg 7 (Marking). The equipment must be marked with safe working loads
