self propelled chipper (Shreks wee chipper)

heres the little chipper doing some lime, scott is still getting to grips with it, its only his second day with it really, so he hasnt quite got the knack of it, i reduced 3 large limes, cut back all the pathway overhang and end loaded a big limb on a birch on the one side, and all the chip fitted in easily under the trees, and the customer was installing a log burner so we logged the bigger stuff for her and filled her new log store with seasoned timber from my yard to get her started.

Don't get me wrong, I am not dissing the man or machine but there seemed to ba alot of reaching into the hopper when feeding, by the looks of it there is very little chance that your hand could reach the drum but is there an issue or am I just getting caught up in Nanny culture of health and safety? :confused1: :blushing:

i see your point edd, and a good one too, he hasnt quite got the hang of it so he is making life hard for himself, rather than turning the branch to get it lined up he is trying to force it through, i use video a lot and let him see what he is doing, he will be looking at the vid later and will learn from it, with our arm stretched full in it is approx 40% of the hopper, and too get your hand right in you would need to fall in, this could maybe happen if you were pushing straight down from directly behind if the machine tipped back, so i have him working to the side as much as possible, your post will make me get my finger out and make a 'pushy stick' from a brush shaft and head with no bristles, i will make a bit on the chipper to hang it from, if i havent done this by monday give me a bollocking' thanks for that:001_smile:

todays job, scott got started clearing all the overgrown shrubs and coppice, ready for me to clear the rest on monday, access was tight again, and the gravel area was very soft, more like a skim of gravel over soil. i also picked up an addition to the micro fleet today, this will compliment gloria well, i want this to shuttle full ton bags of chip and logs out to the roadside and for fixing her on for the off road stuff, all input welcome guys. :001_cool:
