Disco 53 plate brakes failed with 3.5 trailer on

A car pulled out tonight and we had to stop quick which was no probem. Unfortunately on the next steep down hill it became obvious the brake pedal was sinking to the floor. After stopping using hand brake and vigourous pumping we noticed fluid coming from around rear shock absorber area. After recovery to workshop we found the brake lines run on top of the chassis together and hidden. To make things worse hot fluid is passing through other fuel or hyd lines further heating the damp salty mud around them. If anyone has a series two I would recommend a good look cos it wont get spotted on an mot.

The vehicle is a td5 disco in immaculate condition with full service history luckily its a dual system and the rusty pipes on the other circuit stood up. I am supprised a brake line could fail on a 6 year old vehicle.

The prop shaft did not seem happy at the time but I new after the railing there was a 4ft drop so not much choice. I was relieved that there was no accidents. There must have been some braking as its a split system but at the time I decided not to push down too hard and pump it which in hindsight may not have been right. once the fluid had diappeared I would have braked on two oppossing wheels.
