Advice Buying/Building/Running a Timber Lorry

There's a couple of timber boy my way run 8 leggers always flat out delivering to log boys as access is no good for artic. If you have a flat bed to put on pole base you could move other things.

If access is the main problem why not just use an artic with short trailers. An artic with double drive wont get stuck and a 20-30 foot trailer will get in anywhere a rigid truck will. A lot of scaffold company`s in london use them because they are more maneuverable. Also leaves the truck free to pull an assortment of trailers for other work like baulker bins and low loaders. The extra trailers dont cost to keep other than the annual test.

6 wheeler with trailer would be my suggestion, loads of 24t and for any tight spots you can drop trailer and run load out to it then go back to load unit again. I don't think you can run a lorry part time though, the costs are such that it needs to be earning its keep all the time.

Even if its just a 30 - 40 mile round trip your currently doing a 8 tonne load would never pay or your haulage costs to the end user would be far to high.

A wagon and drag is the way forward if your prepared to invest in a lorry and all the hassle that goes with it.

Even with 25-28 tonne hauliers struggle to make a reasonable profit without a return load.

There was someone on hear with a smaller lorry.
