Great thread TCD!

Our D4D has had quite a hard life but serviced every 10k or 11k if I've been lazy.

We've used everything from MOBIL-1 fully synthetic (at Toyota dealers) to semi-synthetic God knows what (at KWIK and extremely KRAP Fit) and currently using Shell Helix fully synthetic (via Europarts).

I haven't noticed any unusual engine behaviour or engine rattling/ knocking but will keep this thread in mind if I do....

cheers, steve

That Shell Helix FS is good stuff actually. Bit on the thin side but got a good version of pao basestock.

It used to be common practice to reduce the OCI when the miles piled up. Or upgrade yer lube and pick something tougher for those widening bearing clearances.

Looking at my last oil purchase it was Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 which cost £29.99 for 5 litres inc vat plus I got a free oil filter included with that - so a good price I reckon.

I've been using TRIPLE QX 5w30 Fully Synthetic (For GM applications) in our Nissan x-trail but not sure if that stuff is any good? Although it did stop the cam chain making so much noise.

Yeah the Shell 5W40, that's the stuff. Re the QX cam chain noise - compared to what?

GM used to be LLB02, updated now I think.

Have a read of that article in above link...

I put the QX in after buying the vehicle... it had an occasional very noisy camchain rattle so I gave it an oil and filter change and the noise went away. Although the oil filter was an absolute pig to remove (it broke my removal tool) so maybe it was more to do with that?!

Vehicle?

Age / Miles?

Duty cycle?

:thumbup1:

Was referring to the 3.0 D4D as in the thread.

Mine's a 2008 and according to Toyota is not affected by the bad injector seals as it was built after. It's low mileage, but gets used hard when it does... 100mile + trips at max weight towing

A few months ago, the oil pressure (or is it quantity) light would come on about 5 miles after a cold start . It stayed on for a second or 2 and would go out for the rest of the trip.

An oil change to my usual Fuchs Pro S 5w-30 has solved it... well the light doesn't come on anymore. Now wondering if I should take more notice and perhaps it was more than just an indication problem.
