International Equivalents

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any idea of the international equivalents of NPTC qualifications?

I am currently engrossed in the thrilling task of CV writing, Having just completed it in English, I am now faced with the task of translating it all into french so that i may hand it over to my local employment agency..........

Ce n'est pas facile!

I currently hold CS30&31 but I am travelling back to the UK in may to complete

38&39, is there an easy way to find out if a french/European equivalent exists?

Hope my question makes sense :blushing:

Hi there,

Whilst I'm not aware there are, and hence I would simple say you hold UK chainsaw qualifications for X, Y and Z etc., I know this is a project the EAC are looking at...or at least I understand they are, i.e. harmonisation of European chainsaw qualifications.

Jonathan Cocking is the UK/AA rep and hence it might be worth dropping him an email (see EAC - )

Also I'm pretty sure there are a couple of French based UK arborists who post so hopefully they'll see this thread.

Good luck..

Paul

:Thanks for the replies, few more emails to follow up on now then!

as always it seems if you have to look for an easy answer, it usually means it doesnt exist :001_rolleyes:

A couple of relevant web-links perhaps:

European Chainsaw

I wonder if / would hope that, your existing, and future, City & Guilds / NPTC chainsaw qualifications would be exchangeable(?) for the equivalent European Chainsaw Certificates?

I think the conclusion being arrived at is that France appears not to have a unique system of chainsaw quals. such that we have in the UK.

Keep us posted if / when you get to the bottom of it.

Cheers..:thumbup1:

Hello,

Fresh back from Morocco just to answer your question.

France does NOT recognise NPTC qualifications as they do not line up with the very exacting French 'Certificate of Specialisation'

This does not put you out of the job market though.

If you want to get a job in France with your NPTC qualifications then they will either be accepted at face value by an eager employer OR refused as agencies are likely to do unless you get a translation.

A translation costs around 35euros per page from a 'translator'

These can be found in most cities.

I found work with an agency and independantly as a climber for a landscape company without any fuss over translations or questioning of the validity of qualifications.

Even without NPTC certs being officially recognised you can still be self employed in tree work, you can run your own company and employ people. What you cannot do is be master to an apprentice studying for French tree work qualifications.

In fact, many people in the arborist side of tree work here don't have any qualifications in the trade from either country as they are not required for 'self employed' tree surgeons but ARE required if you are an employed person.

Interestingly enough, to be a self employed 'bucheron' forestry worker DOES require you to be able to justify your qualifications.

Marocco and Fuerteventura, the international reach of arbtalk knows no bounds!

Spent a week on Fuerte last year, beautiful place, however my overriding memory is of turning green and losing my stomach on a glass bottom boat :blushing:

So I reckon my best chance is to head down to the agent and hope they accept my Quals on face value, if not return with a translation, I'm assuming this has to be from a certified/accredited company?

Thanks for the help
