Hi guys and gals, quick question for you.

How long does mixed 2 stroke last before it goes stale? Got a couple of gallons already mixed that have been stood for two months, reckon they'd be ok?

Cheers.

Starts degrading after circa one month and will get worse, the longer it stands - it is the fuel breaking down the oil that causes issues.

I am sure one of the Aspen men will be along soon!

Got to admit i have never had a problem with fuel even longer than that, and i am a sod for not emptying the machines out either.

Yeah, a lot of my mates are the same as you:001_smile: I work offshore for a couple of weeks at a time so usually find I have surplus mixed fuel before I'm away again, hate to waste it! Have started mixing smaller amounts which can be time consuming, leads me on to another question, will 2 stroke oil 'go off' if exposed to atmosphere?

Thanks.

Remember, its the base petrol that degrades, rather than the 2 stroke oil.

So mixing smaller quantities only works if you are buying fresh fuel each time.

There are plenty who say they have never had a problem, and that could well be true. But its probably more accurate to say they have never been aware of the problem.

Petrol does not 'start to go off after 30days", it starts to degrade from the day it is refined.

As each day passes the fuel becomes a little less efficient, a little more corrosive and a little more liable to cause an engine failure.

Most manufactures will say not to use fuel over 30 days old in their machines.

Aspen is by far the best fuel to be using in small engines, its more expensive than petrol but stays fresh indefineately.

On the serious side, dont know nothing about aspen, never seen it, never been offered it so cant comment onit. I am supplied with a credit card from the boss, i go into town as and when, buy 40litres straight petrol for the quad and 20litres i mix straight into 2 stroke
