Right vehicle for job ?

Read a few of the thread's on here about people's work truck's. Most of us have similar requirement's regarding vehicle's and have varying solution's to the problem, it seem's to be a matter of weighing up the pro's and con's of each and making a decision based on money and how big a company you run.

 

My self, more arb work in winter, storm damage general tree maintenance and smaller domestic client's. Summer totally different,grass contract's hedge cutting and the odd big take down and usually load's of Leylandii !

 

For the small contractor in my situation with only summer staff and subbies in the winter and a mutt all year round what would you suggest as a likely candidate. Need to be able to carry chip or grass cutting's. Plus mower's, strimmer's,saw's other kit depending on time of year. Be able to tow chipper or pull plant trailer. Also fairly able to get in slightly muddy yard. Bit of a tall order to fit all thiss criteria!

i'd personally go with a 3.5t truck like an ldv/isuzu maybe.....and buy a load of hardcore to chuck down in your muddy yard

Used to have a LDV had no gut's at all slow didn't even describe it. Hated it with a vengence and it wasn't even all that old!

 

Would a crew cab lose you a hell of a lot of carrying capacity due to the shorter tipper length ?

 

Hard core for the yard would make sense,although some of my work is in muddy field's where a 3.5 tonner wouldn't go.

110 landy, with a tipper back, seems the only solution if you plan to go off road an go through muddy terrain, can take chip/clippings, take 3 staff if you have the center seat. will tow plant trailer or chipper through rough muddy terrain. dont see that from your description of what you need that much else will fill the requirements.

 

if space is a issue get a 130 twin cab tipper, i have a 130 twin cab, and i have yet to be short of space, but i dont have to move chippings in the back of mine its purely for tools

Hi what size of back would be available on a 130 crew cab tipper i assume it would be pretty small and probably not worth the money!?

 

Generally the off road ability is more for moving kit not necessarily for towing the chipper/trailer off road. i Didn't make that very clear in my origional post.

I don't think there is the right vehicle totally.

 

Charlie is right about the Land rover approach, but I'd have a 130 as it grosses at 3500kg a 110 grosses at 3050kg. Here's some pics of a 130 DC

If your only off road ocassionally just with kit, I'd go down 3.5/7.5tonner route then buy a quad and trailer.

You could try one of these.

 

DODGE 50 4x4 CREWCAB TIPPER

 

I paid 1200 quid for it from BT (although it had a box back on).

 

I took that off and cut down a 7.5 tonner tipper body and put that on.

 

Has a 4.2 deisel perkins engine and a monster winch.

 

Was downrated to 5.5 ton so no operators license

I have since sold it.....and would love to know who has it now???????????????????????
