Winch suggestions

Hi All,

New to the forum.

My name Harry and I run a gardening landscaping business.

I am hoping to learn a lot from this forum as we branch out ;) into doing more tree work and woodland management.

I have had a job come in to coppice and clear some dead and dangerous tree's (mainly ash, laurel, hazel and smaller oaks) from 1 1/4 acres of woodland. The family want the wood made safe for their children. I do not have big rig gear like tractors etc... and there is no access to the wood (it lies in a big pit).

Is it possible for me to hook up an electric winch to a large tree base as an anchor and then winch out some of the larger tree's from this pit area once felled? What sort of winch/power would I be best looking for.

Thanks in advance.

Hi harry.

Sorry to be negative to you but hauling timber of any weight, uphill out of a tricky site is not the place to be experimenting and learning the job. Winching really can be the extreme hazard operation requiring reading of loads ,weights, hang up points, and anchor capabilities. My strong advice is to take advantage of any of the experienced guys on this forum and learn from them. It will put you in a good position for the next jobs.
