I think you will find that it has a coating of some sort on the cover fibres, this may be a water based urathene, not sure what advantage it would give but does hold the rope together when splicing.

Do you use the 10mm prusik rope with 11m climbing rope or do you have to go to a smaller diameter?

There is an 11m rope at work which I was going to try with the zigzag but I think 11.5mm is the smallest you can go with the zz so thought id give it a try with a prusik.

A blakes will work with same diameter hitch cord and rope, vt I find works better with smaller hitch cords. Bit of trial and error within guidelines is the best way really.
