i might be wrong but flip lines should only be used on the main stem along with your life line so never actually completely supporting you but will help !

therefore you should never have to take you main line off so even if it fails your main line is there to stop a fall other than that you should be using a rope lanyard

if you have to take your main line off use a rope lanyard simples ..... that is what i was taught

As a LOLER competent person, if a wire core flipline is presented as a component of a persons PPE I would regard it as a failure of due diligence not to subject it to thorough examination. Of all the fliplines that I have seen the eyes are swaged not spliced; however the eye is formed if there was any concern that the termination was compromised I would strip the plastic cover and replace with heat shrunk tubing if the component subsequently passed inspection. Hope this helps, Matt.

I agree. Good post.

Why would anyone NOT supply a piece of life support equipment for inspection?

Why would anyone presume a flip line/wire core not suitable for use as primary life support without back-up?

There appears to be a lot of confusing information thrown about regarding such simple things at the moment

Any loler guys out there ? I would like an opinion from one of you if your about. Cheers.

A wire core flip line is classed as PPE

All components should have EN numbers on.

Each component should have a CE number on.

All items for climbing such as ropes, harnesses, connectors, and mechanical devices should be subject to thorough examination every six months.

A wire core flip line falls into this category.
