A friend has just bought a second hand stihl 028

How old is it likely to be?

Will it want 1/25 or 1/50 oil fuel mix?

Any comments please?

Thanks David

Check and see if it says "made in West Germany" on it.

Ma colleague has one. Bulletproof. He runs it on 50.1

Golden rule with 2 strokes in my experience, use a good quality branded semi synthetic 2 stroke oil at 50;1, . If is doesnt say semi synthetic or synthetic or is not mainstream brand use 25:1 . The only exception I know of is Stihl HP which is mineral but designed fpr 50:1

My first chainsaw was a 028 avs woodboss got it in '89, was a great saw. Think the 028 "av" had plainer more chunky chain brake handle, also my memory is hinting that they may have been a cc or 2 less, the "av super" was 51.5cc according to my grainy sepia tinted photographic memory. Anyway, the handbook said as harry said there, 50:1 if stihl oil, 25:1 if any other brand.
