Don't forget that people on this forum are on here to give their opinions and share their thoughts. One of my closest friends cannot spell yet he is one of the brightest people I know.

I would rather read an opinion from a post that has grammatical errors with good advice than a well written pile of rubbish. Just my take.

The Latin name is Populus, I wonder if thats anything to do with it.

Is it Latin though? Surely it's it's botanical name. Taxonomy uses words derived from multiple languages, though I'll admit Latin is a large part of Linnean nomenclature.

What!? Don't start talking all gay with me, Curtis!

I thought this was the thread to be picky? "Latin names" irritates me.

Fair play, I didn't go to college!

I should have said the Genus is Populus, or is that still incorrect?

I'll stick to cutting stuff I think.

You can't use the word gay on here it will make you unpoplar

My mistake, I meant no offence, to trees or people.

I was gay once.

You could have done :)

I wasn't having a go at you, more an observation of the pedantry that goes on.

Ftr, I don't like bad spelling and grammar, but in a written medium a lot would be missed if you ignored or dismissed every poorly spelt or wrongly worded post.

I think its most refreshing on here that people's views, opinions and knowledge are what are valued rather than their fine words, grammar and spelling. I find that I learn some of the most useful things on here from some of the worst spellers.

You'd want to hope that Mr Plogs doesn't want to comment on this thread otherwise you might have more issues than just grammatical ones :001_tongue:

Personally though, I can get past most of the basic mistakes. My biggest issue is still text talk. I've also noticed, especially on FB, that nearly every second word needs to be a swear word just, it seems, to make a point. Does my nut.

I was under no illusions, I knew it would turn into a "I'd rather listen to someone with bad spelling who knew what they were talking about......." Type thread.

The original post was about the regular misspelling of tree names and industry related words. It's those errors that go on Cvs and quotes that could easily be addressed. Put "Ariel" in the search bar and see what comes up.

I think only Mark Bolam really understood that.
