I guess in the domestic game you can pretty much do as Ya like?

I've got to refresh my confined space ticket soon. £340+vat, a trip upto Northampton and a day's lost work........ Wouldn't get on most sites without it though. No top man. No work.

.

I can 't, I'm employed. Fact is employed or self employed, I won't work if I don't feel like I can do the job without requiring a rescue.

You're right though, commercial clients will know what you should be doing, and expect you to dot the "i"s etc

Best system is to have a rescue line in the tree, or the climbers line on a lower able anchor.

I never climb on a system that isn't lowerable. The 660 is always next to the base, running with the chain brake off.

Hello everyone I currently have my own small business which includes tree surgery and landscaping. I am starting to do more tree work than landscaping but cannot do the trees myself as I am not qualified so I have to get my uncles to do the work as they are fully qualified. But they are very busy and cannot always come and do my jobs, so I'm looking into taking the necessary qualifications to do the work myself but not sure what I need. Could any one tell me what tickets I need and where I can do them?

Sorry Frank....

ahemmm :blushing:

bit of an aerial rescue derail there.

Its true. We are just doing a job for a large construction company. All the RAMS had been accepted by their H and S boys. We referrenced The AA guide to good climbing practice and work positioning etc etc to cover work at height. Just as the lads were gonna start, their supervisor on site stopped them saying that it didn't specifically say in the method statement what we would do if the guy in the tree had a heart attack. Hardly likely but we couldn't start till we'd appended a statement detailing second climber, CS 38 and aerial rescue. Doesn't happen often though.

Frank, if you are interested in seeing the content of the assessments, tap on the red hyperlinks in the quote below....

The UK chainsaw competence system consists of training, and then assessment.

Anyone can supply you training (within reason)- the biggest player in the UK is 'Lantra', but the assessment can either be undertaken by 'city and guilds' or 'Lantra'.

Between the two organisations, the assessments are identical and interchangeable (you can do some with Lantra, and interchange with city and guilds, but most people use city and guilds for historical reasons..... shop around, get the best price).

Once, the assessments had nice easy names like CS30 CS31, CS38 and CS39, but they have now given them stupid long names and indecipherable long numbers, sorry)

For basic tree work you will need:

Chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting (was CS30)

https://www.nptc.org.uk/qualificationschemedetail.aspx?id=333

Felling small trees (CS31)

https://www.nptc.org.uk/qualificationschemedetail.aspx?id=334

Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue (CS38)

https://www.nptc.org.uk/qualificationschemedetail.aspx?id=337

Chainsaw from rope and harness (CS39)

A link to the Lantra equivalents is here...

I am not too sure who will be your nearest assessment center, these are not a million miles away

I put it together for some American / Canadian fella.

I thought it was quite good - I guess he wasn't that impressed as he didn't even bother to acknowledge the post :sneaky2:

Still, cant remain bitter
