Lister Engine trouble greenmech chipmaster

That's not a disaster, I like to see bent push rods, bent push rods means there is probably less damage elsewhere.

That's nothing to do with your bloke running it at low revs, more than likely the valve timing has slipped. In engine terms its not a difficult fix.

You don't need an engine diagram, push rod engines are as simple as it gets

sounds promising! I'l forward this on to my dad to boost his morale!

The only problem you might have is if the valves have damaged the piston crowns and or themselves in the process, its still not terminal but more work and expense.

Nothing you have done to the machine will have caused this, its unlikely to have hydrauliced, that's usually a lot more serious particularly with a chipper flywheel involved.

Chances are your chain tensioner fell in bits and the timing went out.

What's with the "old"? Sure there are plenty of old Listers out there but what you have is a standard push rod engine, its not cutting edge but that's not what's needed to run a chipper.

What the man said!!

Bent rods are better than bent valves or knackered piston crowns etc. I recently had a chain slip on a V8 in a hot rod - left me with a load of bent rods, just found some more in the shed and put it back together and she ran!
