my ivy nightmare

hi guy's looking for a bit of advice on a job i'm doing Monday

 

 

 

thought I might just fell it but will need to get a rope in it first. I have one day to complete.

I presume you've checked to make sure there isn't a giant at the top.

Use a throwline, go straight over the tree. Pull a rope over and tie it off to the base. Use other end for the pull. Make sure base tie is much higher than felling cut. When installing a pull line there is no need to isolate a limb, just make sure its secure and over some good branches, so won't slip out.

was going to used 40ton digger to pull it over. problem with throw line in old pine is they get stuck in the bark and ivy. the trunk is only about 25" but the ivy about 3m

Why can't you just remove the ivy ?

short time frame don't know if i'd get it done in one day. not looking to dismantle just put it on the ground there's a clear felling zone

Ivy removal doesn't take long even horrific ones . Might be a tree worth keeping I don't know :-)

it has to come down there putting in a parking lot I don't really agree with it but it's the job I've been given. want to avoid spiking at all cost thick ivy mat around trunk with soil and thick bark have some long spikes but still doge

Or you could take the tree and leave the ivy. Gee-wizz I hate ivy with a passion. Had to demolish and rebuild two walls due to the devil's tendrils.
