441 or 461

Not as much power as a 461, but either would drive a 25 inch bar (I use a 28 on my 441 here). 461 is not as smooth as the 441 (not spring loaded) but it is way smoother than the 460 was (vibe is about like the 440). 461 gets good reviews from loggers here in the western states, and should be a good choice.

If I wanted anything larger that a 372xpg, I'd take a 390xpg - nothing to worry about!

Not as nice as its predecessor the 385 but a much better saw now spud has worked his magic on it , well mine anyway

Husky 390, not the horrible Stihl 390!

 

Anyway, the Husky 390 is in much more need of porting than the 385 - that is excellently ported, but "just" needs a larger carb and a more open muffler....

If the 461 is better than the 460, then it's a great saw. I love my 460, great with a 25" on it, it struggles a bit with the 30" I occasionally put on it, but copes well enough for me not to have spent the money on a 660 or 880 to date!

 

So, I would agree, MS461.

I meant the the Husky 390 !!! Had one, parted with it. Replaced with MS460; not quite as much power but miles lighter and nicer to use.

My 461 is great, was using it with the 25 inch bar buried in this solid old oak trunk this afternoon, was going to use the 076 with 36 inch bar in the picture but it was a bit blunt, 461 flew through it. The speed it went I thought it was going to be mushy rubbish wood but it was lovely stuff.

My 441 is stock, and an older non-Mtronic. Depends on the wood, but full comp on the 25 inch bar on the 441. In softer fir/pine/hemlock/cedar I will usually up the rim drive to 8 pin with the 25 too for more chain speed. In hardwood I stay with a 7 pin rim. With a 28 inch bar on the 441 I usually use skip, or semi-skip with a 7 pin rim.
