I can see how it is certainly one method but as we know there are moments when say you make your cut and then lower your saw running the strop through your fingers to control it if you see what I mean. I clip my saw straight onto my Caritool but still knowing it's attached to my harness via a tear away bungee is a good safety fallback.

Come along now, you must be pulling our legs? Isn't that just silly? I lived in Germany until pretty recently and its certainly not common practice...

i've worked with two climbers who don't use strops for there saws. I myself have told them it's not safe for anybody below.

They just hook the chainsaw on the harness. And use it with out a strop.

That was how I learnt, carbine hook tied with a piece of starter cord to the top handle of an 020. Then again, it was the days before chippers too, a long while ago.

In both cases it was scrambling round in conifers and the strop was rubbing over branches, but I am happy to admit that some elements of both of the above may also come into play!:001_rolleyes:

Most of my climbing is now into and out of vehicles and into my office chair! - probably safer that way.....:thumbup1:

It wasn't a dig at you:thumbup1: I just can't understand the reasoning behind the use of the twistlocks. I don't know if it's still the case, but I think at one time they weren't deemed suitable for use by the rope access industry.

Used to use a Screw gate but now I connect with a 3 way. I agree with what bttgaz said about inspecting screw gates.check everything...always!

I still check my screwgates are secure frequently, even though I haven't had one on my harness for several years. Force of habit.
