i have personally found Bicton to be poor to deal with and the caliber of people they pass out to be poor also. Mark Isted had a pretty bad rep. as an assessor and in general a poor attitude to people, i had a dreadful time of it on 1 particular occasion when he was assessing me and he destroyed my confidence even before i started an assessment. I do believe he had to undergo some 'attutude re-adjustment' in order to stay in the industry. Hiline do training too Dan. Good luck with it DanClimbsTrees.

Hey Wick,

I completely understand your frustration with Bicton. I wouldn't like to be tarred with the image that I'm of a lower caliber though! I learnt through an apprenticeship so time in college was minimal (probably a good thing).

I had no issues with Mark and found him very easy to get on with. Sorry to hear that your experience was not good! I think having an assessor who puts you at ease is important (they have this at Roland Heming).

In another turn of events I could have easily ended up at Hi Line. Although, I'm happy that I ended up working for a local Arb and being his only full time employee.

Cheers for your comment,

Dan

I went through Bicton Arb in 2011/13, quality of teachers is good however every single teacher is part time, offices are horrendous, took several months to book in each assessment and I wouldn't recommend, but without them I wouldn't be here in this job today.

Mark Isted I learnt to appreciate... during my CS30, I was crosscutting a log whilst safely kneeling on one knee balanced (surely good for posture and saves on bending over/bad back), whilst cutting I saw him come out of the corner of my eye and actually push me over, to show 'how precarious I was'.

However I went on to do the rest of my tickets with him with him assessing and he was a lot better, personality clash some would say.
