I saw one in the shop the other day and seeing its simple one piece construction (it must cost buttons to cast) I imagined it would be a cheap alternative to a pantin. It works by using the crab itself to pinch the rope against the grips.

 

It ought to cost a fiver.....but sadly it doesn't.

 

Maybe Jonsie could do better??

Not something I've ever been asked for I could get one in, but not sure if it would damage the rope to much?

it does damage the rope. i have one. its sold as a rescue ascender. its nice and small so it can go on the harness unnoticed, but i guess the down side is it damages the rope....not really suitable for regular use. makes a nice key fob though

It looks exactly as the teeths in the ascender or the pantin, so there should be not more or less damage than that.

 

One could use a croll as well I think.

very good Rich, great labour saving system, you should try it SRT if you get the chance, this guy is using a frogwalker set up on SRT -

nice one rich. what sort of ascender are you using on your version?

 

I just had the usual VT, pantin on the right foot. The ascender below attached to a bungee and attached to the rope the slings length from boot.

 

Cheers Tim, only tried srt the once and it was Steve's setup. I may give it a go as i have a few ropes kicking about.

 

What do you recommend?

i got me an old hand ascender kicking about in the garage. im gonna give this a spin! looks mega efficient.
