Don't give up on it. I recently transported a couple of poplar sticks for someone for milling. It's certainly not useless though shifting small amounts is probably harder than large ones as it does have industrial uses.

Once upon a long time ago it went into the mining industry

 

It was reckoned that the miners liked it because it gave a bit of warning before it gave up where steel props didn't.

 

These days it mainly goes for pallet wood or dunnage.

Its most valuable use is sauna furniture, but then its usually the slow grown Scandinavian stuff. {Common Poplar.}

 

Probably a very select market unless in Finland or some such.

 

Favoured for lack of splinters & hot leaking resin sticking to bare butts! :lol:

ohh well its all good to know stuff for future reference:)but for now poplars going to be fire wood but we have some chestnuts coming down soon so i might pop them up to see anyone s interested.cheers for all replys
