So pulling a trailer with a combined weight of over 3.5t, shouldn't you have an operators license, unless its a "dual purpose vehicle"?

you only need operators license when you move above 3.5t vehicle. thats why we are all running around in 3.5's not 5 tonners.

if the trailer is less than 1 tonne unladen you do not need an operators licence for it. You do need to have a tacho unless covered by one of the exemptions, principally agriculural or forestry enterprise and within 100km.

Got a tacho in the Fastrac, so already sorted with the cards, that's a start I suppose

from the mouth of the vosa guy who was charging me for overloading, he ran through some of the things we needed to watch out for and the problems of whether a tacho was needed or not and hauling timber ready processed needed a tacho no matter where you were hauling it to but rounds did not need one.

 

Fair enough if you've heard it straight from them but if you are going by the documentation it strongly suggests otherwise.

 

Its a minefield and this is why I detest these organisations. Bloody B+E, Tacho's, O license, driver CPC. I only want to sell a few logs!

We used to have a Discovery & trailer, required tacho. Now use a 3.5 tonne van, can get 3 x 1m3 bags in it, easier to get in places and only takes 5 mins to chuck the logs out, no tacho required!

It's very easy to get 'wrapped' up in the 'need' to acquire more and bigger kit when, sometimes, less is more!
