I am well aware of the employers liability for sub contractors but is it not mandatory that all sub contractors must have their own public liability in place as well?

Not mandatory for contractor or sub-contractor. Highly advisable though. :001_smile:

Ahh I see, have always been in the belief that that was the case, thankyou for clearing that up for me. I would still request that all sub contractors that work for me have their own though even though mine covers them. Seems silly to me to try and operate as an arborist with out public liability insurance to be honest and it's not exactly expensive in the grand scheme of things.

Exactly. It always makes me laugh when I'm free-lancing for another firm and they ask me if I have PL. You can learn a lot about them by their reaction when you tell them it's their job so their insurance. :001_smile:

Actually I cant see the point of labour only subcontractors having their own insurance. Their insurance is for their own jobs not yours. If there was a potential claim the liability would be with the lead contractors and not fall at the door of any labour only subcontractors who work as employees.

Why? It would be a waste of their money and literally not worth the paper it's printed on when working for you.
