Excellent Shavey :thumbup1:

When you say get the dates right do you know which weekends in September might be doable?

if the show was on a weekend that it does'nt clash with the local vintage rallies , its a great idea and a great location for a real traditional wood fair that would attract alot of local and regional crafts people

as you know the two local point to points at kilworthy and cherrybrook always get good sponsorships and donations from local companies and are well supported and i have close links with the sonrise appeal in tavvy and local companies are brilliant in helping in any way

as Goaty says there are so many different exhibitors that could come and join in :thumbup:

For some of the bigger exhibitors please bear in mind that a show is to sell stuff at and make some good contacts - a lot of marketing types and enthusiastic organisers can easily forget that. September can be a busy time with Saltex, Weald Woodfair, APF and a variety of other things going on too.

If it is piggy-backed onto a sheepdog trial - then most of the people will be to watch the dogs, be entertained and watch the things happen. Even if you are a chair bodger or candle stick turner, the event is for you to sell stuff and not be free entertainment.

I hope and wish that you do well - local stuff is ace for the community and hard work! Usually organised by a hard working knot of people who get no credit but all the blame if it bombs....

Wasn't there a woodfair in South Brent last September?

Spooky.

I was down there at the weekend so asked the chap I was working for if he knew anything about a woodfair in South Brent. Turns out he organised it!

Going to be tricky now as don't want to overlap or tread on any toes.

Good points Steve that are not lost on me.

Finding the balance between a fun event for visitors and worthwhile one for exhibitors is vital. Had a bit of an opener when one chap said he would be happy attend for the sum of £250. Not quite what I expected but a good dose of reality.

I went to the Sth Brent Woodfair and it was a very small low key affair ...... but I would imagine it takes a good deal of planning and organising . It is of course likely that some would require a fee to attend but it needs to be assessed if they have the "draw " to justify this ... not easy !

Yep

I can imagine horse logging bringing in the crowds in the context of this connected to a sheepdog trials. Not sure some heavy forestry machinery would be appreciated by the same people but so hard to judge.Apparently the South Brent show took a lot of work from a small team of organisers.
