Here on the other side of the pond, we can get Carlton N4C. Still a semi chisel tooth.

The little MS170 and MS192T both perform quite well with this .043 driver chain.

Anybody 'upgraded' the bar/chain on an ms170

Out of interest, why do you want to do that? Is it because there's a better selection of chains in that size? I was actually wondering about going the other way, converting to 0.043 on that basis that a thinner cut would use less power, but that was only a vague idea since the bar and chain have plenty of life in them still.

I have doubts that this little saw will pull a 1.3mm chain as it will need extra power to cut the wider kerf. I once fitted a 1.5mm full chisel on a 136 Husky and it wasn't good to use, very boggy and think yours will do the same!

Stick with the 1.1mm standard gauge IMO

For future reference, it works fine.

Vibration is worse than with the tiny chain (which is already quite shaky) but cuts better. 12" bar buried in seasoned conifer, beech and chestnut doesn't bog down, not that I'd want to use it like that for long...

Reckon the chain should last better.

I've been playing about with the newish 1/4" pitch picco chain on an MS192... beautiful to cut with, very fast and very smooth...

But there are limited bars out there at the mo - (the only ones really are the 10" and 12" Stihl bars that go on the MS150T).

I reckon this 1/4" P chain could be the future for all smaller saws - smooth fast no bogging down...

i have stuck a 12'' 1/4 picco on an ms170 with a rollomatic e mini bar on. cuts class, lots easier etc. pretty quickly got blueing on nose end and broke chain after a ma of 3 sharpens. might have been bad luck but felt that the 1/4 P chain really is for tiny saws i.e smaller than 170. saying that i might have been unlucky and it was great while it lasted
