they dont get cash, the window gives out a cheque, they then walk to the next window, where the cheque is cashed for them, poor souls not having a bank account

I weigh in at a few different yards, depending on where I'm working. I was in Middlesex a few weeks ago, weighed in at a yard that I was told did the cheque thing, weren't the case when I was there!

Yes they charge a fee for it just as cheque cashing services do. Some places also offer to put credit on your pre pay card and despite what people want to believe about certain groups, they will do this for anyone at all.
