transit tipper springs question upgrades to 5t ones?

Alright,

Just a quick one really, For those that might know the answer straight away,

But we currently run a ifor williams tipper trailer ( 3.5T unit) with a decent weight capacity, Now looking to sell it and use the money on a depo on a new transit, But 3.5T, Can i Fit the 5T springs from a 5T model to it will they just swap over?

Reason i ask is if i keep it a 3.5t vehicle i don't need new license.. taco etc.. but if i put heavy springs on it then if i was to over load it then I run less of a risk braking something surely ?? :)

The biggest transit is 4.3 tonne and the springs from fords will be super dear, just buy the truck and then take it too a spring firm to get it beefed up or just lower the bump stops

 

A quick serch on line will show you who's your nearst firm or buy the kit from eBay & fit your self anther option is fit air bags like most 3.5T motorhomes & recovery trucks use the whole kits about £300 ish

I think the payload is about 1.8 tonne but you'd need a taco so might as well just get iveco daily 65C

I work on the railway and 6 of us got in the transit crew cab tipper with nothing on the back and set the scale alarm off as the. 6 of us put the front axel over waight

Running a vehicle like 65c will incur other issues.... where as a 3.5t will keep you away from 'o' licensing. If you are already in advance seeing a weight issue, why not deal with it?

Not wanting to derail, just seems more time is spent on avoidance rather than keeping legal.

What I ment was there's not much point having a 4.3T transit as you might as well just an iveco daily 45 55 65 etc the OP was asking about tuf springs for his 3.5T transit of a bigger transit and Old Mill didn't know there was bigger transits then 3.5T

Yes, I 'm with you!

also agree entirely, once you exceed the 3.5 threshold, the choices becoming numerous.
