Haha, mines done about a months work and despite really annoyingly not wanting to rev first thing in the morning and cutting out. I have found start it and let it warm for twenty seconds then rev it gently up to full throttle. Apart from that it's great, it will happily swop from aspen to 2 stroke with a two second grumble (if warm). I will now get shot by the forum for using both, but I have no problems doing so and if a saw is to be left for a while unused it's gets a tank of aspen and run on it for a few minutes prior. Seems to work.

I would echo Mountain Man and look at the 150 if you want a small bar saw. Or go battery husky for peace and quiet. Did all our climbing work on battery today.

I've 2 540's. One on the tech rubbish bar and the other Oregon, both going strong so far. But only tend to use them when I want a whole lot of oomph on big stuff.

I've had the back handled 150 in the tree too and it's great. Prefer the battery though.

I just got a 540, I'm hoping mine isn't one of the ones that fall apart. Apparently (according to users on this forum) there are two kinds. And now I find out that Stihl have ironed out the problems on the 201 so that it now performs... And stays in one peice.......... :)

The two kinds are ...#1 the kind you use daily ( fall apart ) .... #2 the kind you put in a glass case at home ( stay together )

What about if you use it every other day and keep it in a glass case overnight? Will it only half fall apart?

:) :)

I take it you have the first type of 540?

:)
