3.0 Isuzu Trooper

i have had my trooper almost 14 years now in use everyday been to france 10 times too fully loaded with a big trailer behind. I also get around 33mpg

I was sitting here scratching my head thinking that pic was of the old 3.1 bullet proof engine and not the common rail engine. So I think you answered it for me

3.0 ltr diesel came out same year as mine 1997 i think!!. Its got all the same stuff as the 3.0 i think its called a mark II dash grill lights airbags etc

 

mines totally standard from new as when i bought it took it for its first mot when it was 3 years old etc

 

its had lots of waxoil over the years and regular chassis checks cleaning protection to the cavities etc. I never thought i would keep a car so long but its been no trouble so why fix it if its not broken

 

there are some 3.0ltr to 3.1 conversions out there too but as already said if all the recall work has been carried out it should be fine with a 3.0 lump in

We've had 3 Trooper SWB Commercials and swapped to them after using Defenders - the SWB TD5 we had after a 90Tdi just about had us exploding at the LR main dealer on a daily basis

 

We've had all 3 Troopers from new and were 'luxury' after the LRs. Make sure it's got a/c - you will need it on a long run in the warmer months. My current vehicle is 2005 and just as everyone's said, IM have been very good in fixing inherent defects especially the injector issue. Also if you ring International Motors (Isuzu / Subaru) they will tell you from the VIN what and when and whether has been carried out if work done through franchise.

 

Only problem now is getting someone who knows Isuzu to look after them. Our nearest bods closed down and now we have an hour's journey to Culverwell to get it looked at. We can get it lubed and fixed locally but not many outfits have the ability to plug in to analysis to set it up.

 

What a pity they're not made any more - when mine does eventually give up the ghost it will be a Disco Commercial, a Shogun or a Pajero. But I'll have to rob a bank.

 

Make sure you shoe the Trooper in boots that are as good on road as off. BFG A/T etc. Ideal tyres for this. Enjoy if you get it

Yes another good one my mate a 3.0 diesel auto for 8 years it pulled like a train he put 350.000 trouble free miles on it and then part ex'd it for another later one etc and he still see's his old motor towing a horse box about to this day

Before you consider buying a disco commercial google the internet and believe everything you read because I am finding on a weekly basis its all true.

I have run high miles in 4x4 for nearly 25 years and had virtually no problems the d4 we have now just falls to bits and apparently its not even a bad one I feel really sorry for people with a bad one. I read in one of the lr blinkered followers magazines someone bought a 4 year old sport and spent 12k on a service some suspension and a new steering rack. Come back trooper all is forgiven ( even the 3.0 )

A good choice up to about 2007 then they went a bit too electronic. Mine is now 15 years old and so far in 10 years of owning it one exhaust, 2 front calipers, set of discs all round and a cambelt. Similar build quality and reliability to the trooper but fair bit heavier on the diesel.
