Wood chip for biomass

Not sure how it is possible for a supplier to make a margin selling chip unless they own the woodland?

e.g. Buy in chip size roundwood £35 tonne delivered / chipping costs / delivery costs to end user.

I agree using your own wood is probably the best way to produce chip otherwise you would be paying hauliers twice. As for the £40/ ton I think they were getting paid to clear. Very poor quality chip as well. Any ideas what good quality G50 W35 is selling for, or even any offers?

Forest Fuels have a depot close to us - but you would not be keen on their prices!

Still doing further research, so will keep you posted.

As you are one of the largest consumers in the SW with loads of experience, would you care to put up some costings on the Forum?

I for one would be very interested to see a business model that actually gives a reasonable return for selling G30 / 50 chip.

Buying chip, losing weight through moisture, chipping costs and our labour we end up with a cost in the region of £52 to £55/ tonne. Although I would rather not break these down further from a confidentially point of view I am sure you can work it out anyway.

Your a brave man. I never give my figures out as you never know who may use it against you.

If anyones interested this research was done just down the road from me although I was a bit dubious of carrying out this type of research when the moors surrounding the test areas frequently burn during dry summers.

Surely this is all confidential information. You have just given away your crown jewels. Nobody cares about the breakdown. Doesn't matter to me one jot, but I am sure there will be a few people in here that will be loving your figures.

It is to be aplauded knowledge sharing on a Forum and if others benefit because of a contributor's generosity, they get my respect that's a certainty.
