If you're doing your first tickets, the max. bar length is 15". So the MS241 C-M would have to be equipped with a 14". Though Stihl state it'll run 14", 16" 18"; I reckon it'd struggle on 18" and excel on 14". ......

The actual length of those small mount Stihl bars are 13", 15" and 16".

For pretty much the same money as the 241/261 you could have the echo 620sx which is a far superior saw and will handle a lot more. Really is a fantastic saw at a very good price.

Nothing like fantastic at all, but decent for being an Echo - and of course a lot heavier.

That's your opinion and your entitled to have the wrong opinion. As many others will know and agree all echo saws are very good, I have 3 and haven't had a problem with any plus I recon my two top handles (260tes and 360tes) would out cut the competition (ms201, t540 and 150t) and on top of all that they are much more reliable in my experience.

First Saw, get a MS170. Light and reliable (he says with 3 in bits on the workbench), get a bigger saw to use when you need it, but do everything you can with a 170, they only cost £150, and having one will increase your bigger saws life by decades. Learn how to keep a chain sharp and they're all you need to an awful lot of work.

For a bigger saw, the MS460 is the dogs. 18" bar is stunning, yet it stihl has power to burn with a 24/25" bar on it. Probably a bit much for starting out, so the ms362 is the obvious choice, but I cannae comment as it's top of my wish list.

If your climbing, the 170 is great, but, the 150t is a great wee saw.
