There are different generations of 254s out there, and the last generation, made from 1994 an on, are the most attractive ones (different starter side, slightly higher power rating, and air injection).

I bought mine new in 1997 from Tavistock chainsaws when I did my forestry nvq with Tavistock woodland services. Used on and off for about 5 years.

Can anyone recommend someone who could rebuild it and possibly port it and do a muffler mod. I live in Hungerford but work all over hants, and I'm in no rush to get it done

Thanks will

Spud is your man ! He has ported most of my saws . It has made a huge difference . Give him a PM . I post mine to him . I think 254 responds well to some porting ......:001_smile:

My 254xp 15"" bar is kept for big jobs! It has been to Spud for a slight seizure cure, (new piston) now running better than ever :thumbup1: I usually use the green 40cc with 16"" bar as everyday saw, just snedding etc

Great, didn't think so many would still be using them!

Stubby-Thanks for suggesting spud, his saws have always sounded good.

Spud-I'll pm you in the next few weeks when I go back home and collect the saw, are there different levels of porting to give a happy medium of power and reliability?

The porting I do will be for every day use and should give good power increase whilst not giving detrimental decreases in operating hours.
