Very true/very sad, saw exactly the same thing locally with a designed-from-scratch Hoval pellet burning boiler, in a very very nicely architect designed dwelling.

I was there simply because I was asked to see if I were interested in any of the salvaged components.

Less than 3 years old, endless trouble right from the install, ALL due to shitty (and I could name the manufacturer) crumbly pellets.

They simply installed an oil boiler, regardless of the price of oil.

cheers

Any chance of a PM with pellet manufacturers details Marcus? I've used Mole Valley for a couple of years, best price & no problem with pellets, they in source from an outfit in N Wales.

pm sent.

PS

This was the same firm, that per a local Bapist Pastor, supplied & installed a pellet stove absolutly free, when the Clear Skies grant was only 50%, I could only figure because one was required to sign up to purchase pellets exclusively from them, and probably at a slightly less than competitive price.

cheers

PPS

During a RHI presentation about 18 months ago, a rep admitted that they had had "teething troubles" with their pellet production, despite the absolute blanket denials at the time.

Hi Jon , we looked into having a biomass system put in our main house.... Quoted £120K. Pellets £240+vat per tonne... Not viable. Timon

Does this apply to domestic housing?

I installed a log burner 5 years ago that runs my heating and heats the water. - (love it)

At the time I asked questions regarding possible subsidies but hit a brick wall. Was I asking in the wrong places?

Have a look here Buck: https://www.gov.uk/domestic-renewable-heat-incentive

see if that's any good as a first point of call.

  • 10 months later...

I still have not committed to our NI RHI Scheme, mostly heating with currently cheap oil at the moment, but pondering if now would be a good time to get an install done, as hopefully with cheap oil, fewer people "mad" to install biomass.

Therefore perhaps a more competitive installation quotation, and indeed a better quality installation?

Ho hum, decisions decisions.
