Defender TD5 won't start. Any ideas?

There is a little black box near the sunroofs with an aerial on it. This will immobilise the vehicle but normally it starts playing up and you struggle to open the doors. I am not sure if the td5 has the spider fitted under the dash like the old 300 tdi

Ever had a problem with your starter motor ? Often the starter motor can develop a fault that messes with the signal from the crank sensor and stops it from starting unless you crank and crank and crank it over

That'll make exactly no difference at all.

The immobilizer responder is solid-state and passive.

The fob is just for the remote central locking and not related.

 

On our Td5 there was a large coil of wire (inductive loop) tucked within the steering column that needed to 'see' the key fob before the immobiliser would switch off. Low battery in the fob meant that the loop would not pick up the presence of the fob and therefore the immo stayed on. In one respect it might be considered 'solid state' but it nevertheless it needs an active component (the fob) to make it work.

Could be, I'll put a new battery in the fob.

Or bite the bullet and get a Hilux. They have twin battery set up and no poor quality starter motor or immobilizer.

Its very old technology now a good independant will sort that for a 5th of the price and will know what they are doing. main dealer = £110 ph and a spotty teenager working on your car.

Most reputable main dealers will diagnose the issue for a set fee, then you can decide who resolves the issue.

 

 

EG. Main dealer VW £90 all in where I live.

 

Call the main LR dealer and ask.
